It is an ancient variety of the GDR that went on the market in 1953 and was raised by Paul Vogel in Cajlinburg. At first sight, the red fruits are much like the variety of worship of the RDA 'Harzfeuer F1'. However, the 'Harzer Type' is older, firm to the seeds and, as a variety of light fruit, does not have a green neck.
The sturdy staca tomatoes have a dense, thick foliage of normal leaves and grow up to about 2 meters high. The 'Harzer Type' is a medium-early variety that matures from 60 to 70 days after pollination.
In each strong panicle they grow up to 10 tomatoes. They grow from 4 to 6 cm high and weigh up to 100 g. The fruits have 2 to 3 fruit chambers, soft and juicy pulp and a firm but not hard skin. The tomatoes are firm and have a fruity, sour taste.
