This ornamental pepper reached the Seed Collection of Roughwood in the early 1940s thanks to the African-American folk painter Horace Pippin. However, its origin goes back even further, to François Supiot, French horticultor of Lilac Farm (Chester County, Pennsylvania), who introduced it from France. They are high bushes, from 90 to 120 cm, with black stems and dark green leaves. Its fruits, erects and bullet-shaped, mature from black to brown and finally to a bright red. Spicy and spicy!
